Westbourne welcome back Anton Spires

Anton Spires will make the switch from single-seaters into tin-tops this season after signing a deal to compete in the Michelin Clio Cup Series with Westbourne Motorsport.

Spires, a regular in UK single-seater racing for the past four years, will compete in the roadcar class of the BARC-run championship, following a year out from car racing in 2013.

The move sees the 21 year old reunite with Westbourne, who previously enjoyed success with him in the Saxmax Championship in 2008 and 2009, having finished third overall in the second season with three race wins.

“The ‘road-going’ Clio series was an attractive package, with the budget we have and plan to bring in over the season, switching from single-seaters will initially be hard to come to terms with, but the finances that come with it are beyond our capabilities.

“I’m now looking to further my career down the touring car route, so I see this season as a massive stepping stone forward. I’m more excited than ever to rejoin Westbourne because we had great success in 2009. I also am a close friend with James Colburn, who intend to work with throughout the season. I know Richard Colburn will give me a car to do the job, I’ll have a top coach in Ed Pead, the rest is down to me.”

Spires’ single-seater years included one-off appearances in the Formula Renault BARC Championship at the BTCC-supporting Silverstone rounds in both 2011 and 2012, as well as campaigns in the Autosport Young Guns series in 2010 and the Monoposto Championship in 2012.

Westbourne Motorsport are looking forward to running Anton in the Series, they know what Anton is capable of after doing a fantastic job with the team.

With Anton now confirmed in the team Westbourne Motorsport believe that taking all 3 championships; Reanult Clio Cup UK,  Michelin Clio Cup Series and JTCC, is on the cards for 2014.
