Worthing’s Ben Colburn made it 3 podiums in 4 races as he secured a brace of 3rd place finishes in rounds 3 and 4 of the Junior Saloon Car Championship at Anglesey last weekend.
Heading into his only second weekend of racing, the bar was set high to pick up where he left off from Rockingham earlier in April. The Westbourne Motors-backed teenager qualified 6th and 5th out of a field of 14 cars at a circuit where he has never raced before.
The first race of the weekend saw Ben get a good start off the line and allowed him to make good progress up the grid. By the third lap Colburn was already up into 3rd place where he enjoyed battling with Tom Stockton for the rest of the 9 lap race, emerging victorious to claim his first podium of the weekend.
In his second race, Colburn again got off the line extremely well and was already into 3rd place at the end of the first lap, and never looked back as he pulled away from the rest of the pack behind and kept within touching distance of the leading duo, but was too far away to mount any challenge on 2nd place.
The Junior Saloon Car Championship now takes a 3 week break before heading up to Cheshire where action will resume at Oulton Park on the 17th May, another new circuit for Ben who can’t wait to get stuck in “I was quick there in testing and hopefully there will be another podium and maybe even a higher finish than 3rd.”
