Westbourne give good showing at Donington Park in Clio Cup

James Colburn (Worthing) had an uneventful weekend at Donington Park last week, in rounds 3 & 4 of the Clio Cup.

Colburn was hoping to get his Clio Cup title bid back on track after leaving Brands Hatch empty handed a few weeks before.

James’ qualifying did not live up to usual expectations, as the Westbourne Motors backed driver only secured 6th & 9th for the two races, despite trying a different strategy to his competitors by coming in twice to change for new tyres.

The first race was in wet conditions and Colburn made a good start off the line, gaining a couple of places by the end of the first lap. After initially seizing 3rd place in the early stages, a drying track on wet tyres did him no favours and slipped into 4th place where he remained for the duration of the race. The second race of the weekend was spent under the safety car for the beginning portion – denying him the opportunity to work his way up the grid. Once the safety car had peeled into the pits, James was able to try and make up some places and enjoyed battling with fellow veteran Lee Pattison for 7th place, a battle he won 3 laps from the end and added more points to his championship tally.

Westbourne’s second driver Devon Modell qualified in 11th place in a highly competitive field in which he was only half a second down on the leader’s pace. After the first race, Devon had finished in 9th. In the second race, Devon finished in 8th place after battling with Rob Smith for position.

Hopefully Thruxton will bring better results for our drivers!
