Colburn takes his second win

Ben Colburn, kept his run of successive podiums last weekend by securing another 3rd to his collection and furthermore a fantastic win. Colburn coming into this weekend had an incredible run of 9 straight podiums out of 10 races and he came to Snetteron Race Circuit hungry for more.

Qualifying, Colburn had felt strong with qualifying after a good 3 sessions of practice the day before on Friday. For most of the qualifying session Colburn had been in 2nd place but unfortunately title rival James Dorlin had beaten Colburn to 2nd place on the last lap. However race 2 Colburn had been able to obtain 2nd place on 2nd best times showing his consistency for his times. A good qualifying in all but Colburn was determined to move up the grid in both races.

Race 1: Colburn was feeling confident for the race and he got off to an even start with the other drivers around him going into the first corner. Colburn was able to keep his position in 3rd for the first lap until going into Coram Colburn made a brilliant sideways manoeuvre past James Dorlin into 2nd place. Colburn was then maintaining a gap back to Dorlin who was now 3rd however, with only three laps remaining of the race Colburn had made an unfortunate mistake of going into the Esses too quickly and span off the track. He came back on the track in 5th place and Colburn knew he must avenge his mistake. Colburn quickly caught up to the next car within one lap and he passed him at the Esses where he had spun off the previous lap. Now Colburn had set his sights on Ben Mills who was in 3rd place coming onto the last lap and Mills had a two and a half second gap to Colburn. And at every corner Colburn had closed the gap to Mills and coming to the line he was right on Mills’ rear bumper, a great recovery from Colburn. Across the line Colburn came home in 4th place however, after the race it came up that in scrutineering the winner of the race Alex Day had been caught for his car being illegal. This meant Day was disqualified from the race and Colburn moved up to 3rd which meant he kept his run of podiums. However, Colburn still wanted to redeem himself following his mistake.

Race 2: Colburn ended up starting on the front row by himself as Alex Day had been made to start from the pit lane following his technical infringement. Colburn got off to a great start and had pulled a two car length to his challengers behind him. From then on Colburn had no trouble what so ever he held a healthy gap back to 2nd place and he didn’t feel pressured at all and he safely brought the car home for an incredible and mature victory adding to his victory he got from Oulton Parkearlier in the season. Now there is only one more race weekend for Colburn at Croft at the end of September and he is looking to see if he can win the championship against James Dorlin.
