HRDC Academy cars complete – let battle commence

nearing completion compressed A35 compressed

After a winter long battle against corrosion, seized bolts and obsolete parts, Westbourne Motorsport finally completed their entries for the HRDC Academy series just ahead of the March 11th deadline for the first Goodwood test day, using both A30 and A35 variants the cars are 1954 and 1963 respectively. They have now been bought up to modern spec. using a 1.3 litre A series engine, disc brakes and modern safety features in a car weighing just 670kg (see build link). The striking colour scheme of surf blue and old English white was one used in the late 60’s of parent company Westbourne Motors (www.westbournemotors.co.uk).

Team principal Richard Colburn commented “Initially we under estimated just how much work was involved in bringing these cars back to life. The team have put in a fantastic job to restore the cars with many late nights and countless weekends to get the job done. I would particularly like to thank all the help and advice from championship organisers in the form of Julius Thurgood (HRDC) and Darrell Davies (Motobuild) who have done a fantastic job supplying all the parts before the March 11th deadline.”

Westbourne Motorsport are bringing some local sibling rivalry to the championship with Clio Cup ace James Colburn and reigning JSCC Ben Colburn, competing against each other for the first time.

Round 1 takes place at Brands Hatch Indy (Kent) on the 10th of April. This is also Team Principal Richard Colburn’s 50th Birthday ! DING DONG
