The team’s first venture into classic cars was certainly historic in more ways than one following team drivers James Dorlin and James Colburn’s dominant 1 – 2 performance at the famous Brands Hatch Indy circuit in Kent. The event was almost destined to be special as it coincided with Team Manager, Richard Colburn’s 50th Birthday on Sunday April 10th. Following many hours of restoration it was time for the three car team to take to the track in anger for the first time. Qualifying went well with James Colburn taking pole position, with James Dorlin 4th and Ben Colburn 9th. Dorlin and Colburn both made excellent starts and worked together to build a comfortable cushion from the pursuing pack lapping in lap record times of 63 seconds, incredible for a sixty year old car with limited modifications. The boys traded places and put on a real show, running side by side and sideways through Paddock Hill bend. Just after midway the safety car was deployed following an unfortunate A35 roll following contact at Graham Hill bend but from this Dorlin pounced to take the lead and was able to use his skill to carve through the slower lapped cars with lights ablaze, a lead he held to the end for his well deserved first classic win. Meanwhile Ben Colburn was unlucky with the safety car and lost a lap, dropping back to ninth after running strongly early on. All in all an incredible first weekend for the team.
