- Former Junior Saloon Car Champion set to return with family team Westbourne Motorsport.
- Worthing-based racer keen to build on successful 2017 season after podium breakthrough and twelve top-five finishes.
Ben Colburn has confirmed a return to the Michelin Clio Cup Series with Westbourne Motorsport ahead of the 2018 campaign.
Last season held a podium breakthrough at Croft and Rockingham for the 18-year old, who also boasted an enviable consistency record with twelve top-five finishes en route to third in the standings overall.
The championship provides a cost-effective home for the third-generation, 2.0 litre Renault Clio Cup 2000 model, previously used by the flagship Renault UK Clio Cup on the British Touring Car Championship support package until 2013.
Colburn showed clear progression during his sophomore season in the category and looks set to challenge for the Race Series title this campaign.
Prior to his debut in the BARC-run series, he also enjoyed two successful campaigns in the Junior Saloon Car Championship, finishing as runner-up during his maiden season of car racing back in 2014 before claiming six victories en route to the title the following season.
The racer’s eventual aim is to emulate brother James and former team-mate and 2016 Michelin Clio Cup Series winner James Dorlin in graduating to the Renault UK Clio Cup field.
His title challenge will get underway on the National configuration of the world-famous Silverstone circuit over the weekend of 24-25 March, 2018.
Ben Colburn said, “I’m really looking forward to getting back in my Michelin Clio for the new season, I start testing this weekend at Rockingham and feel I am more ready than ever to win races in 2018”
Richard Colburn, Team Principal said, “We have a fantastic team line up again this year for Michelin Clio so I’m sure there we be great battles throughout the field.
We have several drivers that can win races so I’m sure the title will go down to the wire again. The calendar is superb and the addition of Thruxton will add a new dimension”
