Westbourne Motorsport’s Sean Thomas has announced plans to graduate into the Michelin Clio Cup Series’ Race Series from Snetterton [04-05 August] onwards.
Since graduating from the Junior Saloon Car Championship into a race-converted Renaultsport Clio 197 in the series’ Road Series at Rockingham in May 2017, Thomas has proven himself a championship contender in the category.
Scoring a sensational double victory on his debut weekend, he then followed it up with further victories at Anglesey and Brands Hatch, and has claimed three podium finishes from the opening three meetings in 2018 despite mechanical maladies.
Targeting a full assault on the Race Series title in 2019, Thomas will compete in the third-generation, 2.0 litre Clio Cup car at Snetterton, Anglesey and Silverstone (International) to speed up his development curve and put himself in the strongest position possible to challenge for honours next season.
In view of that, he will miss the championship’s next outing to the high-speed Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire this weekend [07-08 July].
Sean Thomas said, “I am so pleased and excited to receive the offer to progress into the Race Series. Building upon my successes in the Road Series, I will continue working hard throughout the rest of 2018 and beyond to launch my challenge on the title next year.
“I cannot offer enough thanks to all Westbourne Motorsport, my sponsors Arnold Clark and Robot Underfloor Heating, and my family for this amazing opportunity they have all given me. I will do my utmost to reward them all for their belief in me.”
