Silverstone Press Release – James Colburn waves the Green Flag
Press release – Westbourne Motorsport Monday 1st October 2012
This weekend’s BTCC meeting will see a familiar name joining the grid once more.
Roadside Assistance company Green Flag was the title sponsor of the British Touring Car Championship from 2002 to 2005 in the days when Jason Plato, James Thompson and Yvan Muller did battle.
Westbourne Motors, the parent company of the Motorsport division who prepare Colburn’s race car, is a leading supplier to Green Flag providing the end service to customers across the majority ofSouthern England.
The Company provided a charity auction prize for ten lucky individuals to attend the event with hospitality by Renault Sport for the day. All those invited are customer service award winners within the Green Flag control centre.
The team have chosen to run the car in Green Flag livery this weekend to highlight the hard work that all the people involved in the charity events put in. In the Clio paddock fans will have the opportunity to have themselves pictured in the race car for a small donation to support the charity.
Green Flag joined forces with the Prince’s Trust to raise money for the charity by holding a corporate golf day, dinner and auction in Leeds. The Max-A-Million charity team, made up of staff from all parts of the business, held the event at the luxury hotel Oulton Hall, in their quest to help raise a million pounds for the charity.
The special event was in support of the Prince’s Trust Corporate Million Makers programme which backs schemes helping disadvantaged young people across the country. Suppliers and industry contacts were welcomed to the 18 hole golf-course and were joined on the green by celebrity guest and legendary Leeds United footballer Norman ‘Bites Yer Legs’ Hunter, who later gave an entertaining after-dinner speech on his antics on and off the pitch.
In the evening, a charity auction was held, during the evening’s black tie dinner, hosted by Green Flag’s Head of PR, Miranda Schunke. The team were thrilled at raising more than £11,000, exceeding their target. Green Flag Commercial Director, Chris Wilson, said “This event surpassed all our expectations, particularly to raise as much money as we did – a credit to the hard work of all the team and the good sports who took part.”
The Million Makers scheme is part of the Prince’s Trust. It challenges teams of employees to come together to raise £1million to change young lives. The corporate challenge sees teams of employees compete across theUK to turn a seed funding investment into a profit of £10,000, by implementing their very own mini enterprise.
The Clio Cup features a double header on Sunday this weekend and James Colburn will be looking to repeat his wins from the Thruxton rounds earlier in the year. Colburn who heads up the dispatch team in the Westbourne business, will be aiming to emulate Green Flag’s industry leading Rapid Response on the 1.6 mile Silverstone national circuit.
